Well, we returned home yesterday from our trip to Seacrest Beach and I must say that I am SAD! We had a wonderful vacation with great weather, great food, great company, great fun at the pool, and great relaxation. We went last Friday, drove to Greenville, AL and stayed the night.
Saturday, we finished the drive, went to the grocery store, then checked into our lovely home. It was big and beautiful with three floors, three master bedrooms (each with a king size bed, full bath, and private balcony), and a game room for the kids. We ate sandwiches at the house that night as we got settled in.
Sunday, we started out with a trip to the beach. It was beautiful with white sand and green and blue water. The kids were not so fond of it, so we headed to the 12,000 sq. ft. pool (more like several large pools). They really enjoyed it. Our daily routines after that were pretty much morning pool time, lunch at the house, nap for the kids, then supper out. Sunday night we ate at the Red Bar. We had good food, but it was hot and crowded insided. It was good, but not my favorite. Later, there was a concert at the amphitheater by the pool. It took Turner about an hour of listening to the music before he relaxed and started dancing. Other people came out with toys and bubbles for all of the kids and the fun really began then! Turner was so sweaty, but he had a blast.
Monday morning, Amanda, Calvin, and Addie went to the beach and sent 6 pink balloons to sweet Bailey for her sixth birthday. It rained later Monday (really our only day of bad weather), so we drove to Baytown Wharf and shopped and ate at the Acme Oyster House. I got brave and tried one of Calvin's raw oysters for the first time ever. I have to admit it was not bad. Then, we drove to Destin and shopped some more. I got my first designer purse, a Coach, for about 1/2 off.
Tuesday, we celebrated Addie's fourth birthday and ate at Stinky's. She had an Ariel cake that came with her very own bracelet :) That cake was yummy and was gone by the end of the week.
Wednesday, we shopped at Seaside and Mom babysat so we could have a romatic kid-free dinner. Words cannot express just how romantic and delicious it was. We went to Bud N Alley's and got there as soon as they opened at 5:30. We were only the second couple to be seated, so we got a table in the corner of an airconditioned room with huge glass windows that overlooked the beach. The view was absolutely beautiful! Then, there was the food...Our appetizer was an heirloom tomato and crab salad. It was very light, with chunks of crab meat, finely diced onions and peppers and other things, and mixed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. It was absolutely delicious. Mark ordered pan fried Grouper that came over a crabmeat succatash and seasoned with a lemon dill butter sauce. It was so good. I ordered the grilled Triggerfish that was served over green beans and creamy grits with tiny croutons and fried capers. Again, it was delicious. I almost made myself sick trying to finish it all because it was so good. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good food in this area!
Thursday, we ate supper at Blue by Night, the same restaurant in Rosemary Beach that we ate lunch at the Saturday we arrived, only it's called the Summer Kitchen for lunch. That night, we swam in the pool, so the kids could see all of the white lights on the palm trees in the dark.
Friday, Turner got brave enough to take his swim vest off in the pool. He LOVED the big pool. Mark, Turner, and I ate lunch at Wild Olives in Rosemary Beach. For supper that night, we got Cajun steamed shrimp, bake potatoes, and key lime pie and ate in. Those shrimp didn't stand a chance!
Sadly, we had to leave Saturday so some punks could have our house next. On the way home, Turner kept asking for his house. But, when we arrived, he said, "No! I want the blue house!"
Other things that were fun that week? Let's see. There was the dancing fountains, the Sugar Shack, forever bribing Turner to eat something, swinging on the porch swings, looking for seashells, squirrels, ants, and lizzards, hearing the kids sing "Beside the Seaside!", taking pictures on the beach, and listening to the waves crash at night. Like I said, it was perfect.
